MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING

The adjourned monthly meeting of the Masteftori- County Council was held yesterday, there 'being present Councillors W; J. Welch (chairman), 1). J. Foreman, A. J. Percv, A. Murray, C. C. Kobbell, It. F. It". Beetham, and !)• J- Cameron. Apologies for absence were received from Grs. Toogood and Miller.

Mr August Johnston requested that ■tdiei thirds from sections 5, 6, and 1, Blocks X and XI, Mild Mild, be expended in.improving the road thereto. The engineer was instructed to take whatever action, may l)e considered necessary-. - .

.GVIr. E. WV Payton asked the Council to lease a strip of road near Colquhoun/s for a stock paddock for the use of settlers. —The matter was left in the hands of Cr, Foreman antl the engineer to deal with. ; The Eketahuna County Council advised that special rates to be collected for the Master ton County for 1911-12 did not appear to have been demanded.

The Town Clerk of Masterton notified that the Mayor and himself had been -appointed to confer with the Council re the widening of the Waipoua 'bridge.

The Puiblic Works Department forwarded particulars in regard to the granting of licenses to construct and maintain electric lines for .lighting and power purpose*. s ■ •Mr J. H. Percy directed the attention of the Council to certain alleged defects oiuthe Mangafpurupuru road, ■near the Tividale homestead. —Referred to Or. Miller and the Engineer. The Chief Railway Engineer forwarded copy of a proclamation allocating part of the railway reserve at Kopuaranga for road purposes. The-Chief Surveyor (forwarded plans of an additional piece of Flat Bush noad which required legalising. ' Mr C. E. : Cockhnrn-Hood wrote, asking that the Glendonald-Wairere and main roads,he widened in certain places! —-On the suggestion of Or. Miller, it was decided that the Engineer furnish a. report on the subject. The Castlepohit County' Council remitted its share of loan interest to January 31st, 1912. The Department of Internal Affairs asked for particulars of any memorials to the late King Edward Vll.—Left with the County Clerk. The Clerk to the Masterton Borough Council notified that the Borough Poundkeeper, who '.was also County ranger, 'would'be required to.devote thei'whole of his time to Borough work in the future. —Received.

The Secretary of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board .forwarded the Sanitary;lnspector's report in reference to' the drainage of Lansdowne. -,-.■..

The.Public Works Department advised that the request to have the Hutewai road grant kept "alive" till next year had been,noted. The Department also forwarded a, copy of an Order-jinr-Council, declaring a portion of the'Hutewai"road." to be a Comity road.

Authority, wias given by the Public Works, Department to expend a £ for £ grant up to £6O on the Te Hoe bridge.

Tlio Wairarapa South County Coxmcil asked for accounts ofMisbursements in connection with the Waingawa bridge repairs and water supply.. Road Inspector Hardinge wrote, asking for a* return of the Governrnenb grants''being expended by the Council, ami. the number of men employed. Mr J. D. Louch, District Engineer ? of the Public Works Department; asked for returns in connection with the expenditure of Toadgranits. Mr Donald Fraser . forwarded a cheque for £l6 13s 4d, being a contribution towards the cost of constructing the Riversdiale road. The report of : the meeting of the Finance Committee was Tead. The Treasurer/reported a debit on the general account of £378 15s, and a. credit pi), the loans to local bodies account of £1736 2s. The receipts .since March ; 12th. amount to £7639 7s' 3d.' The usual- statement of Riding accounts was laid before .-the Oommittee. Accoiints amounting to £2160 0s 5d were recommended for payment. On tbe motion of-Oi*. Percy, the Engineer Was instructed to improve the approach to the Ruamahunga Bridgo at Wardell's. The engineer was instructed,'on the motion of Cv. Percy, .to have the road and fences attended to in tho neighbourhood of the Lansdowne school. TJie attention of the engineer, was directed to the fact that a quantity of old iron 'had been placed in the bed of the Wa.ipoua river. The engineer's report was read and dealt with. •'.'<-.
