LANSDOWNE SANITATION
AND THE COUNTY COUNQIL.
A SUGGESTED TOWN BOARD
The report of the Sanitary Inspector of the Wairarapia Hospital and Charitable Aid Board .on the sanitary condition of Lansdowne was read at the meeting of the Masterton , Conty Council yesterday. A set of by-laws of the Heathcote Road Board liwas enclosed. * \ The Chairman did not see.how thle Council could take action in the matter. • I Or Cameron &aid the residents of the district should take action in the matter. The Chairman, .said the time was coming when Lansdowne- would have to face tie question, of drainage. It might liave to form itself into a Town Board for this purpose. C'r Kehbell did not think that the County ratepayers should be saddled with the cost of drainage at Lansdowne.' j
Or Cameron asked what steps were necessary to constitute a Town
Board. The chairman eaid this could be done by petition t Or Kebbell wanted to know why the Laiisdowne people did not come into ftihe Borough of Masterton. j The chairanan replied that tlieir rates were-lower under the County. The Clerk .stated that if a drainage j scheme, were adopted the rates in jLansdoiwne would bo a© high as they '. were in the Borough. J On the motion of Cr Foreman, it was decided that the, communication :be received, but that no action be taken.
