A NASTY ACCIDENT

IN QUEEN STREET.

A nasty accident occurred yesterday in Queen Street, Masterton. While Mrs Cruickshank, of Lansdowne, and her sister, Mies Campbell, were driving in a gig along Queen Street, the pony slipped on the road opposite the Glub Hotel,., and heavily, ho two" occupants being thrown "clean but of the trap. The ladies .were assisted into ■; Mr Gordon's chemist shop, where, it was seen that both were rather badly hurt. Mrs jCi-uicksliank was the more fortunate , escaping ,wi+h a sprained arm and several bruises, while Miss Campbell had her face badly .cut, and generally suffered from shock/ Dr Prior,, who was summoned, arrived shortly after the mishap, and attended the ladies, who were very fortunate to escape from what appeared to be a. very serious accident. The pony and trap .were not damaged to any extent. Tin's is only one of a number of similar mishaps .that have occurred in the main street of JVlaeterton, and something should -'be .done to make the thoroughfare .more safe for .vehicular traffic, as at preen't the street is (anything' but safe, and these accidents, are at any time liable to have serious results.
