TRUST LANDS TRUST
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last evening in the Trust office, there being present,— Messrs K. G. Eton (chairman), G. E. Da nidi, 0. N. C. Praghell, J. Pauling, W. H. Jackson, R. Krahlagen, and T. B. Michel I.
A letter was received from the Inspector cf Factories, in reference to the registering of the Town Hall as a factory.
The chairman explanied that the Hall had been registered by the secretary, and the certificate of registration had been received.
Mr J. B. Atkins wrote, recommending the Trust to erect the operating room for the picture show in the dress circle.— It was explained that the chairman of the Town Hall Committee recommended the building of the operating room over the door entering the dress circle. Mr Michell said that he had studied similar work in Palmerston and Dannevirke, where the operating room, was built over the doorway, and it was proving satisfactory.— The letter was received.
; A letter was- received. from Mr. J. Dawson in reference to Biograph cable terminals, and work to be done in connection with the picture show in the; Town HalL— Received. Mr H. G. Gosnell wrote,' applying 'for use of Hie Town Ball! for "the hold-
ing of a sale of work on 29thand 30th May.— Decided to refer the application (to the Town Hall Committee. A communication was read from the secretary of the Harbour Board, acknowledging receipt of interest due on £IO,OOO loan, land cheque for £•1000 and interest due on same. A letter was read from. Mr H., A. Jones, architect, enclosing certificaite (final) for £250 for Messrs Ooradine and Co. for contract for new building, land statement of work done by Messrs S. and W. Mackay.— Referred to building comrnidttee, to report : on.
The treasurer's report was read and adopted, and showed a credit balance at the bank of £532 16s Id. In connection with the Town Hall Committee's report, Mr C. E. Daniell moved that all engagements made for the hall should be recorded [so that there should be no trouble about booking afterwards.— Carried. It was decided that when the pio- ; ture entertainments commenced at the [ Town Hall, the, caretaker be paid an. [extra 10s a week for extra work en- | tailed in clelaaiing. I The Town Hall Committee's report i was read and adopted. . The building committee's report was read, and a discussion was entered into In connection with the leasing of Trusfc property to tenants. Mr Daniel! brought forward a miction that a tenant whoso lease was about to expire, should be granted a renewal for a term of years, under'slightly altered conditions. Mr Jackson supported i the motion. It was decided, that the committee confer with the tenant, and lay ■ before him. the Trust's pro--1 ipbsals,. ahel witlv power to make any. ■modifications found; neccteary: Mr R. Burridge, who ha.s been in receipt during the past itwo'years of a I matriculation grant of £lO from the [Board, wrote asking for a continuance lof the [grant, to-enable him. to continue his studies at Victoria College. —Mr Jackson epoke in favour of the being continued, as the applicant was highly deserving of the assistance asked for. Mr Eton moved that the application be not - granted, as the applicant was now residing outside the Masterton Small Farm area. As the .Trust liad decided that all matriculation grants be limited to persons residing within that area, he could not see how they could grant the application. On the voice of the meeting, the motion, twhich was seconded by Mr Pauling, was carried, the secretary to be instructed to inform Mr Burridge that the altered conditions did not permit of the application being granted.
Messrs. Pragnell, Jackson, and Dan-iell-were appointed a committee to make arrangements for. the furnishing of the Board's' meeting room. Accounts amounting to £326 17s 4d were passed for payment.
