SOOTHING SYRUP.
.••iSife'-Hon. G. W. Russell, who has:! '<■ conWtb'be a: Minister hs: 'the^fcof;, Jlohn Payne and Co., and not by : will 'of -tllie-peop]e, .is-preteiiding ;■.; a ; remarkaMe: anxiety just now; for the, i r£ver.sipir : to 'sound business .lines and, the restoring of confidence in tlie- ; country. T!he..faet is that he and his colleagues are in fear' and trembling lest, at the first division taken in Jiune next, they are sent about their business. Unfortuately for them, as the GhrTstchuroh Press points out, 'the country is not in a. mood just now to be lulled to slecip-by soothing syrup. Tlie electors cannot overlook the fact that the present Ministry is merely a. creature of the "party in whom the- country expressed its want of confidence at the last election, and that it is in the enjoyment of office at the present time, by dint of political trickery which fcr devioucnees j and effrontery h unequalled" in . the annals of constitutional government. Professions from such a source will be telken at their true value, and we ! have not the least doubt that so eoon 'as Parliament meets the Ministry .with all its.fa.:r promises and professions will go down like a house of ! cards.
