Mr P. C. Freeth, editor of the N.Z. Times, is at present a visitor to Masterton. Major-General Godley visited the Territorial camp at Tompleton (Canterbury) on, Saturday. Mr Hale, late postmaster at Martinr horough, left last week with his family for Onehunga. Mr W; C. Nation, of Levin, has oeen re-elected President of the New Zealand Spiritualists' Association.. Mr S. Inder, Postmaster at M-vv terton, visited Dannevirke on Saturday. Mr D. McLaren, ex-M.P., is announced as a candidate for the Mayoralty of Wellington. Mr Aaron Simmonds, a well-known Featherston settler, has been married *t Wellington to Mrs Elizabeth Weston. The Rev. A~ Hopper, of Waihi, will succeed the Rev. Charles Roberts as Methodist minister in the South Wairarapa circuit. Commissioner William John Richards, late of South Africa, has been appointed territorial commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand. ~"• The Earl and Countess of Morton, with their three sons, a~ro at present deer-stalking m the country beyond Martinborough. Among the visitors to the Tauherenikau races oh Saturday were Dr. Newman, and Messrs W. Fraser and W. C. Buchanan, M.P.'s. Major A. B. Charters, of Grey town, 9th Regiment, Wellington-East Coast Rifles, has qualified by examination for the rank of Lieut.-Colonel. Mr "J«e" Chadtfick, the veteran sporting scribe'and handicapper, of Auckland, was a visitor to the Tauherenikau races on Saturday. He is Jxt Feilding to-day. A'quiet wedding was celebrated in Knox Church, Masterton, last week, when Mr C. Nix, son of Mr W. J. Nix, of Tauherenikau, was married !o Miss Carrie Miller, eldest daughter of - Inspector .Miller, of Greytown. _ The remains of the late Mrs Robert Allen were interred in the Masterton cemetery yesterday afternoon. There was a large following^of old identities and friends. The Rev. Charles Roberts was married at Featherston last week to Kate Mary,, fifth.daughter of Mr and Mrs C. F. Goodrick, old settlers of the district. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. S. J. Serpen, of Masterton.
The Rev. J. E. Parsons, who Is shortly leaving Masterton to take up his duties in the Taihape circuit, wis tendered a farewell social at tho Kur"puni Methodist Church, last week, there being a large attendance of members of the church and friends. A number of speeches were made, and referred in eulogistic terms to the work done by Mr Parsons -.while in charge of the Kuripuni Church, and lie was presented with several verv handsomely bound books as a token of esteem. Mr Parsons, in replying,'referred with pleasure to his year's stay in Masterton, of which, he would always retain pleasant memories.
