TERRITORIAL CHAPLAINS.
Colonel Altan Bell, of the Waikato Territorials, thinks tbat the Chaplains, of the Territorial forces should be more than mere ornaments. Most people will agree with him. But wluat have tihey been doing in tlie past? Have they not : exercised a wholesome moral influence over the .forces? If 4hey have not, they •cershould hiave done. The ques-ia'p-ii" of "denominattionaiHsim should not enter the discussion. There is no reason why sen-ices in camp should not be conducted- by the authorised representative of any denomination, and there is certainly nothing in the regulations, to-compel a man to attend the service of a denomination to which he does not belong. Colonel Bell, if he had so desired, could have put his finger upon a dozen weaker-spots in the defence system than that;of divine service. • '' '
