CARTEIRTON
The- many friends of Mr D. Robertson, will be glad to hear that he is making good recovery from his operation for appendicitis. Ho loft for Wellington yesterday, to spend a holiday with Ids relative*. Mir T. E. Ma.un.sell has just purchased a new 32 h.p. Cadillac motor car, and arrived lionie on Wednesday from Napier with it. It has all the j features of the newest type of car. | The Carterton Brass Band intends j playing a programme of music in the Band Rotunda on Monday evening next. Motor oars and motor bicycles, the speed they travel, and the wear and tear th'ey make upon the roads, is at present attracting the attention of the Carterton Borough Council. It has been suggested that an endeavour should be made to get Parliament to pasts legislation, amending the present law, and that boroughs of a less population than SCOO as at present stipulated should be allowed to tax these vehicles. Now, the majority of motor vehicles in the district are already taxed, but there are hundreds of useless dogs in the Borough that are a menace to public safety, that are allowed to go untaxed. They cause endless annoyance to drivers ■and cyclist®, to the danger of their lives, and the Borough would be doing the resident® a justice if they were to enforce the dog 'tax.
