IMPORTANT STEP TAKEN.

An important step towards the linking u,p of Auckland and Sydney b- direct cable has just been, taken. The. final survey has been made of tiie country lying between, here and the West Coast, and the route lias been definitely fixed for the new cable .to be laid by arrangement with the Pacific Cable Board.
