AFTERNOON SHIFT QUESTION
TWO ASPECTS OF THE CASE.

"NEWCASTLE, March 27
The Conciliation Committee commenced the consideration; this afternoon of the shift question. The men contended that working till midniglit led to physical wreckage and inconvenience in. the domestic. circle, and prevented the enjoyment of i3i ■ family circle and of tihe rights cf citizenship, ako increasing tlie danger cif accident®. The proprietors replied, and 1 wolfling on the commercial aspect of the case, said tilrat the result would 'be a serious diminution in the output, and would affecit the contracts, and fcause ■many men to be thrown out of employment.
