TAIHAPE, Last Night

Saturday, a lire broke out in, a block of buildings opposite the Post Office at Raetihi, resulting in the destruction of the premises of Loveday and Co., drapers; ■ Stubbs, ironmonger; Bennett's tearooms ; Booth's billiard room, and Goodger's livery stables. The Brigade yas unable to use the engine, owing to the short water supply, but excellent service was rendered by a bucket brigade, whereby the adjoining blocks were saved. A large amount of Loveday's stock and that of Stubbs' was saved, and also the contents of the stables. The insurance is not available.
