Although the Election Court has absolved Mr Richard MoGalhmi, the member for "Wairau, from the charges, of corrupt and illegal practices which were brought against. him, the evidence adduced at the enquiry, and reiferred to by the Court in its judgment, emphasises the necessity for the holding of tlu> licensing poll oh a day apart from that of the General Election. The .mixing of drinks, as well as the mixing of issues, is a distinct menace to the good government of the country. If free drinks are necessary to persuade the people that it is a desperately bad tiling to have a drought, they should not he permitted to so muddle the electors that they cannot record ,an intelligent vote on the more serious issues involved.
