FORTY MILE BUSH ATHLETIC SOCIETY

ANNUAL SPORTS MEETINC.

The inclement weather interfered with the popular sports meeting held at Hamua yesterday. However, many settlers were present from the surrounding district, and a most enjoyable day was spent. Several Masterton competitors were present, and the majority of the events were won by Mastertonians. The hero of the day was Ghas. Eller.s, who appropriated the 75yds, 100 yds and 220 yds, and was second in the hurdles. He wins the silver cup valued at five guineas, presented by the W.F.C.A. J. D. Galvin, of Hamua, also had several wins. The silver cup for the- open wrestling match was won by W. Higgin§, of -Master-ion, with Bateman, of Eketalmna, second. Higgihs, who has been diligently training of late, had everything his own way. Mr Gordon Smith was an efficient judge. _ Much interest was added by the inclusion cf two chopping events upon the programme., which dTew large entries. "'The secretary, Mr D.
