PRESENTATION

fO BANDMASTER HUTCHINSON. A very pleasant function was held in the Foresters' Hall, 'Masterton, ■last evening, the .occasion being the making of a presentation to Mr G. W. Hutchinson, for several years the Bandmaster of the Masterton Municipal Band, and who is severing bis connection with the Band. The chair was occupied .by His Worship '"the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), there •also .being present Mr A. W. Hogg and' a large ••.number of bandsmen and friends. During the evening a sumptuous repast was' partaken of, and toasts, soagfj and musical items helped to make the evening a most enjoyable one.

Mr J. M. Coradine, iu presenting sVlr Hutchinson with a very handsome silver tea service, referred to the excellent services rendered to the Band 'lby Mr Hutchinson, who ..was undoubtedly responsible for the Band attaining its present state of efficiency, and he deserved all the more credit from tho fact that the Band nvas in anything hut a flourishing condition when lie took over the con•ductorship. Mr Coradine concluded -by saying that he hoped Mr Hutchinson would live long to use the present which was made to him that ev'■etiing by his fellow bandsmen, and that lie would always remember' that it was a token of the expression of goodwill which they felt towards :him.

iMr "Hutchinson, in replying, said that he regretted that time would no longer permit of his continuing as Bandmaster of the Band, with which ■he was connected for about fourteen years, 'hut he would still do all in his 'power to assist, if his services were required. During tho evening Mr A. W. Hogg, in replying to a toast, gave a ■brief speech "touching on the political questions of the day, and also rendered vocal tieins, hotli of which were greatly appreciated by thoso present.
