During a fourteen months' residence in Masterton MiFinn made many friends, who will regret his departure while being pleased at his appointment. .He was a social evening on Thursday night by J a number of friends. At the Knox Church yesterday a? toraooii, a pretty wedding was celebrated, when Captain G. Anson Thompson, late of the P. and O. Ser I vice, and now harbour-master j,t W<-i- I tara, was married to Miss Helen Annand, of Elgin, Scotland. The cere-
mony, which was of a quiet nature, there being present only the intimate friends and relatives of the bride and bridegroom, was conducted by the Rev. A. T. Thompson., brother of tho bridegroom. Tho church was very, prettily ctecorated, and after the ceremony "a reception was held at the manse. Captain and Mrs Thompson left hy the afternoon train for Wellington.

Minifie, of Masterton, who will enter the Methodist Theological College next year, has been ap;oinied; to work at Island Bay, Wellington,, under the Hev. Josiah Ward, of the Wellington South circuit.
Mr Christopher, of the .clerical staff of the Pahiatua. railway station, has been transferred to Eketahuna.
A London cable states that the Hon. A. J. Balfour has returned to the House of Commons, and is looking well. . . -
' The death occurred at the parsonage in Masterton, at six o'clock last evening, of Mrs Serpell, wife of the Rev. S. J. Serpell, Methodist minister of this town, and Chairman of tbe Wellington District Synod of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. The late Mrs Serpell, who was a native of Victoria, had been ailing for a considerable time, and her death was not unexpected. She came to New Zealand over twentyyears ago, and had been a help to her husband in his ministrations at Auckland, Thames, New Plymouth, Timar.:, and Wellington. She was' highly respected for her benevolent attributes and personal qualities. She leaves a husband, two sons, and a daughter to mourn their loss. Tho funeral will take place on Monday afternoon.
