DESCENT ON A COURTHOUSE

NEW YORK. March 14.

At Roanoke, Virginia, a mob of mountain outlaws assassinated Judge Massie, the Sheriff (Mr Webb), and the District Attorney (Mr Foster). An outlaw was being tried for some offence, when his companions descended on the courthouse.

A pitched battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of the Court officials mentioned. The outlaws' losses are unknown.

A posse of citizens is pursuing the outlaws to the mountains. More bloodshed is likely.
