H. B. IRVING.
New Zealand recently became very excited over the, visit of Mr H. B. Jrving, and the notices appearing in the daily newspapers of the production of "Hamlet" by this genius, who has the reputation of being the son of a worthy father, were characterised by quite an extravagance of language. It has remained for "The Triad" to tear the veil asunder. This smartly-con-ducted journal has the temerity to state that Mr H. B. Irving could never do justice to' any part written -in blank vcr.,e. "If Mi- Irving has any music in his soul," 'says the critic, "lie certainly can discover none in Shakespeare. If he has any intellectual subtlety, he certainly misses the subtlety of Hamlet. He gave us a Hamlet odd and weird, an unconvincing and inveteratcly pawky Hamlet, a Hamlet terribly pedestrian. In Shakespeare's name, I' do protest airrihst it!"
