MEMBER FOR GREY LYNN.
(By Telegraph — Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. Mr J. T. Payne, Member for Grey Lynn, met his eommittco last night. He said !ie went to Parliament a bitter anti-Wardite. He listened to both sides and although the Opposition made charges of reckless borrowing, they were unable to say which loan they would have struck out —and that was what tunned Mr Atonorc's vote. My Payne claimed that lie broke- no election pledge. Ho had said ho would vote against the Government on the land question because he was misled, believing that large quantities of land were locked up. But he believed now that the Opposition's cry to this effect war, raised to divert attention from the large landholders —their supporters. Regarding the allegations of bribery, he had learned rumours were current that ho had actually received money. He believed lie had a very strong legal action against Mr Massey, and in this connection, he 'proposed to take legal advice. He declared in conclusion, amidst applause, that he stood for Labour and Labour only.
