The girls of the Masterton District High School intend holding a function at an early date, to suitably recognise the .meritorious performance of Miss ( Annie o'lieary ; , the winner of the first ladies' swimming championship cf New Zealand. . Mr J. C. Campbell, of the Wanganui branch of the Bank of New South Wales, and formerly of,. Masterton, will succeed Mr W. H.-L. Galwey as manager of the Napier branch. Mr D. Pryor, pupil teacher at the ; Masterton District High School, has I tendered his resignation to the Wellington Education Board. Mr Pryor is proceeding to the Otago j to take up tlie scholarship awarded him at Knox College. Mrs Carswell, of Waipukurau, wid-j ow of the late Mr Thomas Carswell, who was well-known in Masterton in ; tho early days, died at tho residence of her daughter, Mrs Burt, on Saturday, at the ago of 72. The deceased was, we believe, one of the first-Euro-pean children born at Wellington. A presentation was made by the staff of the Masterton Post Office yesterday afternoon to Mr .]. McMaster, who has resigned from the service. The presentation, which consisted of a portmanteau .and brief bag, suitably inscribed, was made by Mr S. Inder, Postmaster, who, in a few-.well-chosen words, referred to Mr McMaster's popularity, and the painstaking way in which he always carried out his duties. Mr McMaster suitably replied. N Mr P. Chevassus has been appointed | to succeed Mr R. W. Robson as editor, of the Wairarapa Daily 'Times. Mr J. E. Parsons, .who. has been, a Methodist missionary a.t Kuriponi for some months, has been appointed to Taihape. He will bo succeeded by Mr T. Olds. Mr A. McLeod, of Martinborough, is about to pav a visit to the Old Country. Mr H. G, Williams has been re-elec-ted President of the Masterton Golf Club. The Masterton Golf Club, in its annual report, expresses regret at -tne death of Mr Harry Holmes, one of its Vice-Presidents, and of Mr Fleming, a playing member. The Taranaki News states that Mr W. T. Jennings, cx-M.P., will probably be a candidate for the New Plymouth Mayoralty.
A Melbourne cable states -that the Chapman-Alexander missioners \ver> passengers by the steamer Warrimob. which sailed for New Zealand yesterday.
