FIERCE FIGHTING AT CANTON
RECRUITS UNDER PIRATE CHIEFS. (Received March 13, 9.5 a m ) PEKIN, March 12. Fierce fighting took place at Canton between recruits under former pirate chiefs and regular troops, owing to the proposed disbanding of the former. Between one hundred and two hundred were killed or wounded. The revolters are well equipped with guns and ammunition. They hold the Admiralty building. The British gunboat Moorhen conveyed sixty-three AVesleyan mission, girls to a steamer proceeding to Hongkong.

RIVER STEAMERS THREATENED (Received March 13, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, March]2. It is reported that soldiers at tho Bogue foi-ts, Canton, have revolted against the Republic, and threaten, steamers proceeding up the river. '
