PONCAROA.
The Anglican Church has bought Mr H. G. Polglase's new house and section. The land adjoins the church land, and the house is to be used for a vicarage. Tlie Rev. Mr Tobin has returned from his annual holiday, which ho spent in Auckland and Taurariga. Footpaths are ißeing formed in the t-ownship, which will "be a great improvement. The local schools have just had their annual examination, and Mr Bakewell was troubled, as usual, with, very rough weather whilst in th» backblocks. Mr R. Reid's butchery and bakery business has been taken over bj Mr P. Meech. The Education Board's architect is in /the district, examining the additions mad® to the Pongaroa, Puketoi, and iWaione school-house... A large meeting was held on Saturday night, in the Foresters' Hall, to consider fresh arrangements in connection with the daily mail. It. is proposed that tlie coacli should leave an hour Jater in the morning, and the mail would still reach Wellington the sarae day. Then the Welljlist'On mail could close at four in tfi<f afternoon.,, and come as far as- faster ton that evening, reaching tua next morning at 9 and Pongaroa at 3 o'clock in the afternoon./ This allows of a quicker answer to letters, though not so convenient for passengers on the return journey.
