J SUGGESTIONS FOR AUTUFViK At the mooting of the Mauler urn A. and P. Association on ,-<unirua\ last, the following communication from Air G. de Bayliss, Fields instructor, relative to agricultural experiments, was received and referred to tile Agricultural Committee, which ■will meet on Wednesday next: — "On the occasion of my recent visit to M.astorton, and after conversation with Mr A. B. Wood, one of tho active members of the Experiment Committee, the following experiments are suggested for the consideration of .your 'Experiment Committee: — Jt was considered that, in order to obtain good results, it was advisable that the Experiment Committee meet at an early date (the sooner the better) and definitely arrange what experiment:; should be undertaken, and what farmers should be entrusted to carry same out on behalf of your Association. 'Hie following are for Autumn sowing: Hall' Acre,. Carton's Perennializcd Italian rye; half acre, Western ■Wolths grass; 1 acre, mixture: .Prairie, Italian rye and red clover (on good alluvial, or moderately stiff j loams); 1 acre, Hennchen .Barley, for j same purposes (sheep feed) as Cape i Barley is used; 1 acre, .'lmperial Ambler .(Canadian winter feed), to be autumn sown ; 1 acre, Red Fife (Canadian), to be sown in late autumn, on similar country; 1 aero, Red Fife (Canadian), to be sown in spring, on similar country; ,1 acre, Winter Varie-' ty "Wheat, to be sown in autumn on some stony land at Opaki, upon which peas have been grown this season; I acre, stony land at Opaki, upon which peas have been grown this, season, to' be resown with peas, and later peas to be ploughed in, and land prepared for lucerne. . 1 would also suggest that areas of Triumph, Victory, White Ligowo and Beardless- Propsteier oats be autumn sown, fed oft' in I the usual way, and allowed to run for [ a corn crop next season, a similar; area of Algerian being put in alongside, with a view to keeping a record of grazing obtained, and corn yielded hy each variety. Douibtless the neces-| sary number of bushels of these varieties, for the purpose of this experiment, could be purchased from the growers by those desirous of testing same. Should one farmer be willing to test one of the varieties, and another farmer another, by each of them j. putting in a,, similar area of Alegrians alongside, and each comparing the record of the variety grown by him, with the Algerian grown by him (thus making Algerians the comparison plot in each case), very useful information will .be obtained. For Spring sowing: | —Plots of maize and kale for sheep ; feed; plots cf maize (pure) for sheep feed; plots of maize and turnips for sheep fce.d; plots of maize for sheep feed. Experiments with Swedes, mangels, pea varieties, lucerne, Sainfoin, J Soya beans, etc., should be arranged. Among other varieties seeds of the following wheats are available for experimental purposes:— Australian: Federation, Comeback, Yandilla King, John Brown, Jonathan, Power's Fife. Swedish: Grenadier, Swedish Pearl; Canadian : Wfiite Fife, Red Fife, Turkey Red, Imperial Amber. Barley: (Hennchen (Sweden). Oats (for forage or mixed forage crops): Triumph, etc. Small parcels of many of these varieties can also be purchased by farmers desirous of putting in larger areas than the experiment acre on making application to those who have grown for seed nurooses."
