PROPOSED STOCK FAIR

TO ASSIST A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

At the meeting of the General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association, on Saurday last; the President (Mr H. Morrison) expressed the opinion that the time had arrived when a Stock Fair, should be organised, to assist the funds- of the Association. With the accounts passed for payment that day, the Association would be indebted in an amount of about £6OOO. They, had a splendid ground, and good security, but they, should.'bein the position that they could' meet emergencies in the shape of bad yveaJ es.' He considered the ."present time a ifavourable one to make an appeal to Hhe settlers,- He ,suggested■■that th©. secretary'should make a thorough canvass of the district. ?Z ■•&£■■&.■ .O.^SummeireHisfcitecLthafcafc« first he thought a fair undesirable. He had come to the conclusion, after mature consideration, however, that it •would be a good thing to make an efto reduce their liabilities. They were at present travelling rather close to the wind, the limit of their overdraft being £2000.' If they did not make an appeal now, they would not be able to do so for some time. Their liabilities for interest' were very considerable. Their membership was strong, and their grounds among the best in New Zealand.. But he was of opinion that they should endeavour to strengthen their financial position. Mr D. Caselberg supported the proposed rain fair, but suggested that a committee.should assist the secretary. ■ Several members undertook to give ■what assistance they could; .: After some further discussion, it was unanimously decided,., on the .motion of the President. +hnt a ■ Stock and Produce-Fair be -Vlrl on a date, to be fixed, to raise ■ funds in a,id of the Association. . A suib'-comniiit-ee, consisting of the President, and Messrs Smnmerell, WPerry. H. J. Dagg. A. J. Percy and W. H. Buick wns set up to prepare a r>lan of campaign.
