PLOUGHING MATCHES
SUGGESTED E.OR MASTERTON. Mr D. Oaselberg expressed the opinion at the meeting of the Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association on Saurday last that a ploughing match should be organised in conneci tion with the Association. He pointed out that two successful matches had already been held in connection with the Wairarapa Association. This was largely an agricultural district, and competitions of the kind should be encouraged. Paddocks were already available for such matches. He thought they would be self-supporting. Mr R. J. Dagg stated that Mr H. Evans, of the Upper Plain, had offered paddocks for the purpose. The President thought the idea a good one, but considered the proposal should be held over until after they had organised their stock fair—proba'bly until next year. Mr A. J. Percy could see no reason why they should not organise ploughing matches in this district. They •should, if possible, encourage plain ploughing, and hold their matches at an earlier date than in the Wairarapa. Mr H. Dagg thought money.might be made out of a-ploughing match. Mr G. Shaw favoured ploughing matches, but thought they had. enough in hand at present. It was eventually decided, on the motion of Mr D. Oaselberg, that a committee consisting of Messrs R. J. 3>agg, G. Shaw, A. J. Percy, W. D. Watson, R. (Gray, W. H. Buick, B. Rayner and H. Evans be set up to consider the matter, and report to next meeting.
