TRUST SCHOLARSHIPS.
An important point in connection with Masterton Trust Lands Trust scholorships cropped up at the meeting of the Trustees last evening. The Act appears to provide that the scholarships shall be available only to the children of parents residing within the Small Farm Block. This was obviously intended to mean that the children them selves should reside in tho district. If it meant otherwise, it would be seen that orphan children or children left with guardians might be disqualified. The proposal that the "parents -or guardians" of scholarship holders «ha!i r?f?'de 'within j;be swall farm area does .not elucidate the position, because, ipso facto, the child .must either reside with parents or guardians while it is receiving -its'-edu-cation. The Trustees'will have to define a guardian, or it will find itself in difficulties. If it is held that the -children only of parents who reside, or have resided for a fixed period, within the area, shall derive tho benefits, then this should be clearlv stated.
