AMATEUR ATHLETICS
WAIRARAPA AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB.
The annual sports meeting of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club ivill take place on the Park Oval on Easter Monday, April Bth. Runners are expected to be present from the Wellington, Wanganui, Woodville, and Manawatu-Athletic Clubs, and the best local talent are training assiduously for the coming meeting. Added interest is (being shown by the appearance of J>. Cashman, the Wellington Walker who, on several occasions has defeated Kerr, the Australasian champion. Cashman will endeavour to lower the two-mile amateur -walk record at present held by A. Brady, of Auckland. \ The open running events include .lGOjds,. v . 220 yds, 440 •yds;.-.'bracelet, 880 yds,. mite/ajcid twor; : mi\& -handicaps. The. one mile opM handicap carries with it tie Chennells Gup, valued* at' five> guineas, to be won ■twice in succession or three times at intervals. Arrangements have been made with the Traffic Manager to run a, special train to enable Wellington runners to return home the same day. Entries close on Friday, March 29th, with Messrs W. S. L. Dickson and J. Ooradine, hon. secretaries. Tickets for the sports can be obtained from the secretaries and members of the committee. The full programme will be published in next Monday's issue.
