AMATEUR ATHLETICS

EVENING RUN.

Another evening run in connection with the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club was held on the Park Oval last evening. There was a moderate attendance of the public. Two events were got. off, a 220 yards handicap and 880 yards handicap. The 220 yards

event was a hard tussle between Nicholson and MeKenzie, the former getting .the decision 'by about half a yard. The next event, or or BSO yards, was exceedingly well fought out. Dixon, a much improved colt, Avent to the \ front from the first, and was only j beaten on the post by Nicholson. The ' following are the results: — 220 Yards Handicap.— J. Nicholson l-lyds, 1; R. .McKonzie 3yds, 2; J. Tait 22yds, Also started: Messenger, Dixon, Bradbury and Ivead. £?.') Yards Handicap.— J. Nicholson -10 yds, 1 ; 11. Dixon 05yds, 2; J. 'Bradbury Svds, 3. Also started—.Messenger, JlcKen/.ic and Johansen. GENERAL WIEETSNG. A meeting was held in Messrs Gawith and Logan's office on the night of Till March, 1912, at 7.30 p.m. Mr R. McKenzie occupied the chair, there being present,— Messrs Bradbury, Williams, Dickson, Nicholson, and fggulden. It was decided to p'ace on the minutes the performances of the Club's 'team at the Provincial Championsliips at Wellington on the 10t<h February. A letter was received from the Wellington Centre, granting permission to hold ;-.'ports on Easter Monday, and, approval cf the programme. A letter was received from Mr J. B. Hole, of Wellington, stating that Mr D. Cashman would be in Masterton on Easter Monday, and at the sports will attempt to lower the amateur two mile walk record, at present held by A, Brady, of Auckland, A letter was received from the District Traffic Manager, stating that train arrangements had been made for Easter Monday to enable Wellington competitors to goc back to Wellington that night. Accounts amounting to £5 16s 6d were passed 'for payment. At the request of several supporters of the Club, tickets for the sports have been printed, and can be obtained from the secretary or members of the committee. t The secretary was instructed to advertise the sports in .both local papers. It was decided to hold a special meeting of members on Tuesday next, at 7.30 p.m. An, apology was received by telephone from Dr Prior for bis absence at the meeting-. A hearty vote of thanks was passed ■to the chairman, and the meeting adj journed. ■■ , ' ' !
