FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE

! ROTOiRiUA, Last Night. The Fire Brigades' Conferense today passed various: remits amending rules for competitions. President Boyes presented stars for 25 years' service to 15 members. He also presented to Fireman Gilberd, on behalf of his- father (ex-President Gilberd, Napier), a life membership / badge of the Association. . Inuvitations were received from Pal- . ; merston and' Wanganui for the bi-en-jiial demonstration and conference nest year. Brigades will ballot by poat. Past President Rabbins read an in-j sfcructive paper on some of the objects of the United Fire Brigades Association, A committee was set up to consider ways and means of improving the fire and ambulance record,, and a subsidy of £25 was voted for the object. The secretary was voted an hbnorarium of £IOO. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Lieut. Leaver (Westport), unopposed; Vice-Presi-dents, Deputy Superintendent Salmon (Dunedin) and Captain Campbell -^{Timaru); Treasurer, Superintendent Spriggins. The installation of officers and presentation of Past President's certificate and life membership badge to President Boyes concluded tihe Conference. To-morrow the citizens entertain the delegates to ;i trip across the lake, and on Friday the Wairoa Geyser will be soaped, a finale being a smoke conceit on Friday.
