I [From Our Own Correspondent.] KAiPASO.RO. It is fc.clc.lom in this district rhat the heat causes the slightest discomfort, but during this week the weather hiw Ix'en unpleasantly sulti'y. On Friday the temperature reached its maximum for this summer, 801 degrees in the shade being recorded. Heavy rain has fallen during the past few day»i Thursday last was a "red letter day" for the. children of the local ■school, it being the occasion on which their annual treat took place. Tito day was an ideal one for picnicking, and the scholars with their pnrem;; and friends, who assembled in theschool playground, thoroughly enjoyed their outing. During tha day various athletic contests, for which prix:'s were awarded, were indulged in by the children, and all pupils of the .school wore soon the happy pcFsessors of some coveted toy. A shooting gallery for the adults proved a very popular amusement, and attracted quite a number of competitors. During the afternoon, various; frames were played by the young 1 folks, whilst their elders looked on, | keenly interested in the sport, or whiled the time plea'santly away in chatting. An abundant supply of dainty refreshments was passed round hy a band of willing helpers, who were kept going busily during the hours set aside for luncheon and | tea. In the evening, the event was) celebrated in the usual way by a I dance being held in the hall. There was a large attendance, the floor was/ in perfect order, and excellent music was supplied by Mrs Udy (piano) and Mr Larsen (violin), extras being played by Mr Holdsworth. In spite of the warmth of the evening, the energy of the dancers did not flag until after 2 a.m., when the evening was brought to a close. The members of the School' Com-' mit tee are to he congratulated on the success of their efforts to make the school picnic the success it undoubtedly was. Arrangements for winter dances are already being discussed, jind the pas-j time promises to he as popular this season as in previous ones. ■On Saturday night a progressive euchre party and dance took place in' +he hall, 'There was a fair attend-; fuice, and a pleasant evening was! spent. . I After a rest of three months, owing] to its .being -without a conductor, the ; Kaiwaroro Band has again commenced , practice. Mr W. Edwards is in fut-j ure to wield the baton, and frequeht' •practices are now-to he held. It isj hoped that members of the Band will give their new conductor all the support and encouragement they can by attending practices regularly and _ punctually. '
