BREACHES OF DEFENCE ACT
YOUNG MAN SENTENCED. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) CHRISTOHURCH, Last Night. This morning, Harry Cooke, who was fined 4-Os and costs recently for having failed to register under the Defence Act, repeated the procedure of passive resistance which he had adopted, when he-was.'.' fined*'V some> months ago, and declined to pay ; Hie amount' .demanded, -by. the State for his breach, of the Act. Tp^ay.'lie ; was arrested'on a warrant white at his work, and was sent to Lyttelton Gaol to serve 21 days. The police have other warrants for failure to pay fines imposed for (breaches of the Defence Act, and these will be executed as opportunity arises.
