KEROSENE SEED-DRESSING.
The dressing of seed with kerosene as a preventive of the attack by th«> turnip-beetle has been tested at- Runkura Farm of Instruction this year. The test has apparently proved that the treatment was efficacious. Midressed seed was first sown. ai>d the crop was completely ravaged by the ;-"/.. On the same ground ker-soic-dressed seed was immediately sown, and the young healthy crop has all the appearance of being entirely successful. This experience does not, of course, conclusively prove that the kerosene treatment was effective, but h *usfrst:ve. The meth-
od of treating the seed was to spread it on a bap; and apply sufficient kerosene to moisten it, then allowing it to remain in the sun to become sufficiently dry in order to enable- it to run easily through tho drill. The idea of treating seed with kerosene as a preventive of attack by tho turnip beetle is not ,of cour-so, a new one, but the Ruakura experience is nevertheless very interesting.
