A SILLY IDEA.
The game of politics is a wonderful thing. It leads to the perpetration of tho most grotesque jokes and the most clumsy schemes. The suggestion of the Liberal-eum-Labour-cum-Inde-pendent party that because there are a few large land-owners on the Opposition benches the Opposition is necessarily reactionary and opposed to progressiva legislation; is almost
too funny for ■words. Or.e might argue with the same show of reason that because there are lsitts and Laurensons on the Government benches, the pa-rty in power is inspired by a sentiment which the man of the world would vulgarly describe as "Wowserism" ; or that 'because there is a ibrewer or two on the same side, the whole country is dominated by "Bung." None but a churl or a lunatic would be guilty of such a suggestion. And yet this is the kind of stuff that our alkged "Liberal" politicians are pouring into the ears of the people. We venture to say that, if Mr Massey were in power, he would do more in a year to settle the land on permanent, and equitable terms than the city land nationalizer would do in a life-time.
