LOCAL HOSPITAL TARIFF.
[To The Editor.] Sir,— It is with regret that- I take U p m y pen to comment on the above question, but I feel compelled to do so by the charge that is made by our local body for the care of children that are compelled to be sent there by a doctor. I claim, sir, that the charge (£1 8s per week) is excessive, and out of all reason when compared with the adult tariff. Cases liavo been • brought under my notice ~in which parents have not known what to make of such an excessive charge, and I am. certain that they have good reason to complain. When , a child is ordered to be removed to the Hospital, the parent must conseftt. •To ask £1 8s per week from the average person is beyond all reason, and I would suggest that our local Committee go into the matter, and submit an improved scheme to the Hospital Board, for their approval, and do away with the unreasonable charge; for a child. Trusting I have not l taken up too much cf your valuable space, and that those with more able pens than mine will take the matter up in the interest of those who cannot control the sickness of the lit- j tie ones.— I am, etc., i D'.
