HOSPITAL COMMITTEE

| ORDINARY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Hospital Committee was held in the Board's office at the conclusion of the meeting of the Charitable Aid Committee 011 Tuesday morn-, ing. There were present:— Messrs J. B. Keith (chairman), D. J. Cameron, M. J. H. Jackson, W. Fisher, H. J. O'Leary, and Jas. Miller. The Treasurer reported as follows: Balance from last meeting, £345 8s Id; patients' fees, £79 8s lid; subscriptions, etc.,'' £2 4s lOd; total, £427 Is lOd. The expenditure . for the month amounted to £2Ol 13s stl, leaving a balance at date of £225 8s sd. - The accounts for the month, amounting in all to £lO4 14s lid, were passed for payment. Correspondence was dealt with as follows: .

.From N.Z. Dreadnought Gas Co., offering to light the institution with their gas, and referring the Committee to the Waipawa District Hospital;— The secretary was instructed to write to the Waipawa Hospital for further information.

(From the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, stating that it had been decided to place a sum not exceeding £2OOO on next year's estimates for the purpose of providing further accommodation for the nursr irig staff, 'and of installing an X-vßay' and electric lighting plant at t3ie Master ton Hospital.— Received. 1 .

Letters were also received from Messrs Petherick, R. S. Gervaud, H. A. Beck and Co., and A. Davenport, in reference to maintenance at the Hospital, the 'writers of some of these referring in graceful terms to the attentions received' during their occupancy of the Hospital .wards. The hospital diary was laid upon the table. The return of patients for the month of January read as follows : In hospital 31st December, 16; admitted since, 32; discharged, 21; died, 4; in hospital 31st January, 1912, 23.

Mr M. R. Varnham attended the meeting, and submitted plans and estimates of proposed buildings on the hospital grounds for the accommodation of the nursing staff, X-JRay apparatus, etc. * ' The chairman, medical officer and secretary were authorised to make any slight variations in connection with the detail arrangements in the plans submitted, provided that x such alterations do not materially increase the cost.
