THE CENSURE MOTION VIOLENT SCENES. MEMBER FORCIBLY REMOVED. (Received Last Night, 9 o'clock.) SYDNEY, February 20. Mr Lcvien's motion, reflecting on tho Speaker, as cabled on tho 23rd February, was tho iirst business of the Assembly. Tho atmosphere was electric before the motion was introduced. Mr Wood asked if the motion were to bo discussed free from any restrictions by tho-Chair. Tho Speaker asked Mr Wood to withdraw or apologise. Mr Wood disclaimed any intention of personal offensiveness. The Speaker hold that it was not a question of personal offence, but an offence to the House.
Mr Wood, on declining to withdraw, was removed by the Speaker's order, the Opposition showing strong resentment. Tho Speaker cautioned two other members. Mr Levien then moved the motion. MR LEVIEN. AND THE SPEAKERSHIP. (Received Last Night, 11.10 o'clock.) SYDNEY, Fehruai-y 2C. Mi* Levien took exception to the manner of Mr Willis' appointment, and added that he did not think that any Government in this or any other country would show a Chair occupied under similar circumstances. He (Mr Levien) an Independent, was offered and refused the Chair, and Mr Willis, a Liberal, accepted under conditions which made his occupancy a matter of sorrow. Mr Willis had not-occup-ied tho Chair with the dignity necessary to a position where tho two essentials were impartiality and fairness". In common justice he had.not been impartial, fair, or just.
