MR W. A. VEITCH, M.P.
MEETS HIS COMMITTEE.
INSTRUCTED TO KEEP HIS .
(By Tehgravh—Ffess A ssociation;)
WANIGANUI, Last Night,
The Chronicle learns form an auth- j orit-ative source that the rumour that Mr W. A./Veiteli, M.P., : s lilcelv to break his pledge given at the election is quite unfounded. Mr Veiteli returned to Wanganui on Saturday specially to'meet his Committee. He arrived by the 9 p.m.' train, and proceeded at once to the meeting, which was largely attended. The Chronicle understands • that interest in the meeting was enhanced by the fact that during ■ the forenoon the chairman cf GVIr Veiteli's "Committee received a telegram from a member of the Wanganui Labour Party, at present in Wellington, strongly urging that Mr Veiteli be given a free hand •with regard to the no-'Confidence motion" now before the House. Thi was interpreted to mean that Mr Veiteli should be freed to vote, for, instead of against the Ward Administration. I Prominent members of his committee received the suggestion with unqualified disapproval. So far as they were concerned, they said there was to be no breaking of pledges,- and they did i not believe for a moment that Mr Veiteli himself would think of going back on his word. Steps were taken to ensure a large attendance at last night's meeting. ' The proceedings were not open to the Press, but the Chronicle is informed that the greatest unanimity prevailed, and that Mr Veiteli made it clear that he had 110 intention of breaking his pledge. Tlie meeting terminated with a clear and unanimous understanding that he would vote for Massev's amendment to the Address-in-Reply, and once his vote had been given, he : should be free to vote as he consider--led best on any other question that I may arise.
