MASTERTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
The managers of the Masterton Technical' School are to .be congratulated upon the success -which has attended their labours during the pa./t year. The number of pupils at the institution appears to have ibeen satisfactory, and the financial results were favourable. Ther© seems, however, to bo room for development in the utilitaiv ian as well as artistic side of the school. It is discouraging to find that, in an agricultural district like this, so little attention is paid to rural subjects. A large percentage of the pupils at the school are engaged in the commercial classes. There is a danger of commercial training being very much overdone. Possibly when the district is .provided with an agricultural college there will not be so much cause for complaint. Tn the meantime, it would be well if the rural side of technical education were given as much prominence as possible by the managers. The ;>oor support accorded the art classes is to be regretted, for these have a particular hearing upon the better and brighter side of life.
