STATEMENT BY PREMIER. ESTIMATED SURPLUS. (By Telegraph — Press Association.) ■.WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Premier to-day laid on the table of the House a statement of the financial position of the Dominion, from March 31st last to January ai&t. The revenue under the various heads was .£8,718,064, and the actual expenditure, brought to account for the ten months, was £B,000,995. The Premier estimates the revenue for the unexpired! two months at -£2,305,261. and the expenditure at £2,278,859. This will be, for the whole year, a revenue of £11,023,328, and an expenditure of £10,389,854. leaving a surplus of revenue over expenditure of £683,474. To this shoiild be added the balance on 31st March, 1911. of £586,483, less £500,000. to be transferred to the Public Works account during the present year, leaving 'an estimated surplus on 31st March of £769,957. Referring to the increase of revenue, the statement says that;the/cpntinual increase in the revenue of the country is most gratifying, and affords proof of the Dominion's remarkable financial strength. On 31st 'March, 1911, the available ways and means for public works purposes were £1,040,045, and (excluding mon- 1 eys obtained for the _ redemption of, maturing loans), adidtional funds j Have'.been received as follows: Un-i 'der the Aid to Public Works and 'Land, for Settlement Act of 1910, £181,650; uifder the Aid to Public Works and Land for Settlement Act 1911, £350,000; transferred from the Consolidated; Fundi £250.000; and' .miscellaneous, receipts £6265, making a total for the' ten months of £1,972,960. A further transfer will.be made from the Consolidated Fund of £250.000, .making a gross total available for'the year 1911-12 of £2,177,960. The expenditure under appropriations for the ten months (excluding separate accounts, having ways and means of their own), was £1.452.647. A further expenditure of £666,070 is ; estimated for the remainder of the year, making a total of £2.118,717. ai'd leaving an estimated balance on •31st.March;; next, of £59.243. To'this will have.to be,added the balance of the 1911 loan, yet to be raised, of £1,150.000, being the authorised loan for Aid to...Water-power Works Act, 1910, making an estimated total available for next vear of £1.709,243.
