In the last dying kick of the Prime Minister, when he smashed all previous records at vote-catching, it- is quite astonishing how many little things he overlooked. The references to cheapening the cost'of living, and removing the Customs tax from tobacco, and the making of the paths of the small farmer easy, aro all very nice in their way. But what of the great Imperial question upon which Sir Joseph Ward was so pronounced a few months back? What of the reciprocal tariff with Australia? What of the great ocean services, and the opening up of markets ? What of the reduction in the cost of cables ? All these thiags are evidently as nothing compared with the price of the working man's tobacco and the Labour mem'ber's vot«.
