FIRE IN MASTERTON
MR J. C. 10 WING TON'S KACTORY DESTROYED.
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE
A destructive lire 'occurred in Mastcrton about 0110 o'clock tliis morning, resulting in tho complete demolition of the premises of Mr .1. C. Ewington, engineer and wheelwright. When the firebells rang, the whole (mildings were in a 'blaze, and abso-hit-ely nothing could be done to save the contents.
The fire would appear to have originated in the 'hack portion, of the Imilding, and when discovered had 41 complete hold of th 6 structure, whicli was destroyed with remarkabe rapidity.
Fortunately the heavy gale which liatl been blowing half an Jiour previously had subsided, otherwise the whole of the buildings on the otherside of the road must have gone. As it was, th© flames .were confined to the one building. The Fire Brigade turned out promptly after the alarm was given, and succeeded in saving a good deal of stock at the back of the building. The stock destroyed included a. quantity cf valuable machinery and plant, several vehicles, and four motor oars. Tho insurances were not available when we went to press, but Mr Ewington is likely to be a heavy loser.
The cause of the fire is a mystery
