THE RADICALS' HOPE.
It is an open secret that the Radical followers of Sir Joseph Ward are rather anxious that he should he beaten in this week's division. They admit that the pronouncement of the country was against Sir Joseph, but claim that the demand waß for more Radical legislation than Prime Minister can be trusted to give: The /idea is to allow Mr Massey to form a Ministry, and then for Mr Laurenson, or some other Radical, to move a no-confidehco motion in the hope that they would be sent for. This might be the very best thing that could happen the Reform Party. If Mr Laurenson were to become Prime Minister, he would not last a week, and if an appeal was made to the country on the question of leasehold v. freehold, the Massey Government would be returned with a large majority. But would the Labourites take, the risk of an election just now? We fancy not.
