MISS MARIE BAINES.
'"Miss -Lancashire,..Limited," staged by Miss Marie Baines and a company of English artists, was performed in the Masterton Town Hall on Saturday evening, to a good house, and undoubtedly the entertainment pzovided for the public was quite equal to what the advertisements stated it-to be. The star figure in the play was Miss Marie Baines, whose wonderful rendering of "Mary Ellen Thompson," who impersonates the rich ward of Mr Higgins, kept the audience in the best of humours during two hours' mirthful entertainment. Her performance must he considered one of the most finished ever given in Masterton, and must ensure the company success wherever they go. Miss Baines was splendidly supported by an extremely clever company. The acting of Mr Allan B. Young as "Harry Higgins," and Mr Dan Llewellyn aK "John Thompson," a farmer, was of a high order, as indeed may be said of all the members of the company. The singing of Miss Baines and Mr Llewellyn was splendidly received, and was quite up to anything heard 'here for some considerable time. Taking the play as a whole, it was really and struck a note of real mirth which appeals to all who like to indulge" in an hour or two of laughable amusement. If the .company appeared again in Masterton, the public would no doubt patronise it much more freely than was the case on Saturday evening.
