A London cable states that Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P., Mayor of Wellington,, has arrived at Home in improved health. Mr "A. Calvert, Government Inspector of Machinery* is at present on liis periodical official visit to Masterton. - Mr William Gillespie has returned to. Masterton from his visit to the north. Mrs J. J. Donovan, of Kopuaranga, ■tired at Porirua on Tuesday night from .jui attack-of typhoid fever. The deceased, who was a daughter of the late Mr H. Percy, of Te Ore Ore, .leaves a husband and young family. The funeral is to take place in Masterton. Mrs Donald Donald, of Masterton, ■received the sad intelligence this week of tho death of her sister, Mrs Hilditch Richards, after a short illness at Tregenna. Preston Point, Fremahtle, where die had resided for the past two or three months. Previous to this tho late Mrs Riekards was in England, but the state -of her health was so critical that on her doctor's advice she decided to "try the milder climate of Australia. Much .sympathy will be felt for Mrs Donald in her bereavement. • . , A cable message has bee nreceived sit Auckland, announcing the death at ■Levuka, at the age of eighty-five, of ex-King Mataafa. The Hawera Star chronicles the •death of Mr George Buokrell, Ngaio Park Farm, Whakaimara, at the comparatively early age of 59 years. The deceased was born in Middle Chinnock, Somersetshire- England/, and was educated at Taunton College. For seven years Ihe was in the Queens' Own Dorset Yeomanry Cavalry. On his arrival in Now Zealand ho was in turn nnamager for his .late uncle, Mr E. Paul, and Mr Henry Redwood, father of the New Zealand Turf. Mr G. T. Powell, a well-known resident of Otaki, died on Monday, aged 47. The deceased, gentleman arrived an New Zealand from the Old Country in 1884, and went to Gishorno. After a short timo he came over to Foxton, and some 24 years ago he settled in the Otaki distriot, where he has resided ever since.
Several residents of the Martin-bor-ough district intend shortly to-leave for a trip to the Old Country. Among these are Mr Cameron, of Hinakura. Mr and tho-Misses Orr ..also intend leaving in about'a month's time, and Mrs and Miss Alex. .McLeod, wife and daughter of Mr A. McLeod, late of the boot factory, intend having a twoyears' stay in England and Scotland. Bond, who occupied the position, of Mayor for four years at Hamilton, was tendered a complinieiirtary "social" by leading business men on Tuesday night, and a presentation 'was mado on the eve of hig leaving for a trip to England. Mr Bond was previously four, times Mayor of Cambridge.
