COUNTY COUNCIL WORKMEN

AN INCREASE IN PAY. At the meeting of the Finance Committee of the Mastertou County Council yesterday, a petition was received from eighteen surfacemen in the employ of ,thc Council, asking for an increase in their wages. r l he Committee. after considering the matter, resolved: "That in the opinion of this Committee the request made by a largo majority of the Council's surfacemen and employees for an increase in the rate of pay for this class of work is reasonable, and the Council be recommended to authorise n general all-round increase of 6d per day to the wages hitherto allowed'." The Council subsequently adopted this renort. This means that the wages of the men will be increased from 8s to Ss 6d per day.
