FRESH INFUSION OF VIGOUR EMPLOYERS CLAIM A VICTORY. BUSINESSES RE-OPEN. | (Received Last Night, 9.30 o'clock.) BRISBANE, February 12. After days of quiescence, strike matters are (more ominous to-day. A huge crowd listened to speeches in the Trades Hall. Reference was made to certain 'bread-carters who had returned to work in defiance of orders. Mr Coyne, the President of tflie Strike Committee, stated tliiat the men knew how to deal witth them. Threatening rumours followed. A crowd of teii' thousand, prominently displaying red ribbons, swept towards Queen Street. Tilie police were hurried out. Extra patrols of mounted police were busy keeping tho crowd moving. This sudden infusion of .vigor is caus<ing anxious speculation. Whale tho employers are claiming a victory, the strike leaders declare that they will make a most important strategic move about Wednesday, which will give them a complete victory before the end of the week. To-day the printing, timber, furniture' and bilking businesses resumed work. Numerous men from the country are filling the vacancies, especially from sawmills. A German boat, manned by a black crew, arrived, and an attempt was made to work her witth non-unionists. The blacks struck work. SHIPPING TO BRISBANE. BOATS RUSHED. WITH CARGO AND PASSENGERS.
