AMUSEMENTS

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. To-night's change of programme at the Foresters' Hall will include what is described as the- finest military drama yet produced by a cinematograph company, viz., "The Battle." It is the work of the American Biograph Company, and graphically tells the storv of some exciting incidents in tho American Civil War. The photography all through is particularly, i o-ood, special pains having been taken im securing the various scenes depicted in tho picture. Supporting this picture is "Lorna Doone," adapted from R. E. Blackmore's novel, "John Ridd," which will prove a sure favourite. Lubin's comedy, "The Seheme"ihat Failed," and another "screamer," "Pete's Love Affair," must be seen to he appreciated. Other pictures worthy of special mention arc "Billv the Kid" (Indian drama), "His "Birthday" (Lubin comedy). "The Glvmpa Troupe" (music hall turn), and "Two Wolves and a Lamb."

FRITCH-HASTINCS RECITALS. The Fritch-Hastings recitals, to be given in the Masterton Town Hall on Wednesday and Thursday next, should afford an intellectual feast for those who can appreciate literary talent. Mr Wilson Fritch comes to us with a great reputation from America. Describing his portrayal of "Hamlet," a Chicago paper says:— "Mr Fritch made a lasting impression by his most excellent portrayal of the principal characters of 'Hamlet,' leaving a mental picture of the tragedy before his audience, clear, distinct, satisfying." Not only will Mr Fritch and Miss Hastings disclose some, of tile wonders of Shakespeare, but they will present the gems of a number of the world litterateurs. The entertainment they offer the Masterton public at popular prices should secure for them bumper houses. Lovers of Shakespeare should not miss the treat.
