AN "ABSURD" DEMAND

BY WATERSIDE WORKERS. At the meeting of the General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association on Saturday last, a circular letter was read from th? Dunedin Stock Agents and Wool and •Grain Brokers' Association, drawing attention to the demand of the Waterside Workers' Union that paper-lined bags should be provided for "manure, and asking for the co-operation, of •the Association in resisting such a demand. . . The President (Mr Hugh Morrison) thought the demand of the waterside workers was absurd. This Association should co-operate with other bodies in resisting it. Mr 0. C. Cooper thought the mat-* ter should be referred to a sub-com-mittee. He could not see. in whit way they could be of assistance. The workers seemed to be able to do just what they liked. It -had been suggested that the only way to bring the workers to their senses would be to remove the poll-tax from Chinamen, and allow the country to be flooded with Asiatics. The President was of opinion that a resolution from the Association ■would strengthen the liandis of the Dunedin brokers. He moved, "That this Committee agrees with the absurdity of the demand made by the waterside workers in respect to manures, and will support the Dunedin Association in any action it may take. The resolution Avas unanimously carried.
