Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., was among the visitors to the Pahiatua show yesterday. My Sykes leaves for Wellington on Monday, to be present at the Opposition caucus on the following day.
The friends of Mr Mark Maxton, of Greytown, will hear with sincere regret of th© death of bis eldest son, Mr W. S. Maxiton, which occurred on Thursday night. The deceased, .-w.hu was a prominent Oddfellow, liad been, i ailing for some time.
Mr Frank Tait, for several years on the staff of the Featherston Pot-fc Office, has-been transferred to Wellington.

Mrs Reading was bom in Mauriceville in 1882, her f areata (Mr and Mrs Olsen), ,being very old residents, and now residing at Rongokokako. ''Four years ago she married Mr Reading, and for the last two years she has resided at Koouarangia, Mr Reading being manager of the local, creamery. The acutenS.vs of her suffering had caused much artxiefcy during the last few days, but yesterday afternoon she appeared to be somewhat better. At eight o'clock last evening, however, she waa seized with .heart failure, arid passd peaceful, ly away. Mr Reading and the relations of the, deceased have tho sympathy of a wide circle of friends. *T he funeral will probably take place at. Eketalhuna on Mondav. -
Mr Ike Fake, the well-known boxing enthusiast, who lias acted as judge ■art several of the tournaments in Masterton, is ' leaving Palmerstori North, for Gisborne. He was given a, farewell by the athletic bodies of Palmerston last night.
News has been received by cable of the death of Mr W. S. Robison, late manager of the Bank of Ncav South Wales, Christchurch. Mr Robison, who was over eighty years of age, ami his wife have, since his retirement from the bank about ten years been residing in England. Pneumonia was tho cause of death.
