A RATE QUESTION.

The.Masterton Trust Lands Trustees have to pay several hundreds of pounds in rates every year to the Borough Council. The Churches, and Government offices, and schools, pay nothing. It seems to us that an endowment of the character of the Trust is as much entitled to exemption from rates as are other publio institutions. The matter is one which should be brought under the notice of the Legislature. If educational reserves in counties aild municipalities are exempt from paying rateaj surely an educational endowment of the character of the Trust should be likewise exempt.
