It is stated on good authority that, the Governor has communicated with the Secretary of State for the Colonies with regard to Hon.. A. Fisher's refusal t« allow the military to assist in maintaining- order during the strike. The nature of the message is not disclosed. CHALLENGED TO TAKE A BALLOT. A -meeting of the Employers' Federation decided to challenge the Strike Committee to take a ballot on the question of returning to work, iand also to tell tlie Committee that employers under no circumstances will throw out loyal workers to make room for strikers. •
All retail establishments have practically full staffs, and some firms are refusing to take back strikers.. A notable example is the Government Printing Office, where no strikers will be taken back. PRIVILEGES FORFEITED. Many of the latter had fifteen years' service, and by their action they forfeit the right of extended leave and a gratuity of six months' pay to their widows in case of death, amd other privileges. j On the tramways less than one hundred vacancies are now available.

Strikers who have'been.taken on have to start from the bottom of the list, no matter what was the length of their previous service. Tlie porkrvaster announces that the pilot service'has beet restored. The "vrfiolo of the strikers at the Ipswich workshops have decided to return to work.
